Well, a few hours later and Obama is still alive, thank heaven.

I sat in the union up here, watching the entire time as he drove to the White House, hoping some nutcase didn't try anything. The tank-like limousine was a little reassuring, but you never really know what people are capable of.

I'm looking back at the years under President Bush, and although I'm not proud of a lot of the things America did, I still find myself respecting Bush. Oh, he was an idiot at times, but the more I think on it, who the heck would be at the top of their game when leading a nation through a crisis? And a lot of us sure didn't make it any easier.

So many people humiliated him, bashed him verbally over the head (or literally in the infamous shoe-throwing case), and yet he didn't resign. The man might not have had as much brains as we'd prefer, but he had enough guts to keep going with it.

I hope Obama shows as much dedication, and I hope America is more willing to support him than our former President.
